The Universe Responds

I entered the yoga studio and rolled out my mat in between two others in the back of the room. So many came to this Yoga Nidra New Year’s event. We were wall to wall bodies lit only by the flickering votive lights everywhere on the floor. I started chatting with the woman to my right. She noticed I spotted her holding her left hand with the other. An explanation of her accident with scissors spilled out of her mouth. They slipped when she grabbed them puncturing her palm right before she left the house. As she opened her left hand displaying the bandage, blood was still flowing out the edges. I looked at the paper towel on her mat stained with blood and quickly offered Reiki. She kept chatting. I thought, maybe she didn’t hear me. I offered again. She replied with hesitation, “if you think it will help.”  I told her to cover her hand with the cloth towel and laid my hand underneath hers with the other on top. After a few minutes the energy began to flow and my hands were getting warm. We were all still waiting for the event to begin so I continued doing Reiki for what seemed like about ten minutes. I could feel the energy increasing, my hands and even my ears were getting hot! I asked if she could feel the heat and she said it felt warm. I was surprised at her response, so when I finally let go I immediately placed both my hot hands on her arms. “Do you feel it now?” Her eyes opened wide a bit stunned, no words were needed. I left the room to wash my hands.

As the event began, I told her “No down dog for you” knowing that pose would put pressure on her hands and surely make it bleed. She moved through the poses anyway. When it was over, I sat on my mat to center myself. “Look,” she said opening her bandaged hand towards me, “it stopped bleeding.” She smiled, so did I. I was elated that it began to heal so quickly. But that’s not the only reason. Right before the event I was talking with the yoga instructor about New Years intentions. She said she preferred having intentions instead of making resolutions. Last year she chose one word for the year, clarity. “That would be a good word for me in 2025” I said. “I know my purpose here is to be a mother, but that can’t be all there is.” She agreed, “No, that’s not all there is.” It was immediately after that brief conversation that I met the woman with the bleeding hand. My offer to facilitate healing through Reiki was compelling. Perhaps being seated next to her was a sign that the new year is one where I’ll be reaching back into the healing arts, a place where I started my own healing journey three decades ago. I declared out loud “Clarity would be a good word for me in 2025.” Healing was what followed. My voice was heard, message received. When you send forth intentions, the universe responds creating opportunities for a new path ahead. The journey continues.
